Viking Novice Invitational Quiz Bowl Tournament
Hello everyone! The Huntington North Academic Team is excited to announce our first tournament, the Viking Novice Invitational, to be held on November 23rd, 2023. This tournament is intended to introduce Northeast Indiana teams to pyramidal/IASP-style quiz bowl.
LOCATION:
The tournament will take place at Huntington North High School (450 Macgahan St., Huntington, IN 46750).
QUESTION SET:
The tournament will be hosted on SEDNA, a question set for middle school/novice high school competition. These questions are written to be an accessible introduction to pyramidal quiz bowl. More information can be found here: viewtopic.php?p=400800
TEAMS/TEAM SIZE
Schools may register multiple teams.
Teams can have up to four active players at a time, though more can rotate in and out as substitutions. We ask that teams consist of no more than six players if possible. We recommend that, for the best playing experience, schools with more than six players split into multiple teams.
GAMEPLAY:
Games will be played according to rules outlined in the 2024 IASP Academic Quiz Bowl Coaches Handbook, with a few changes. Games will consist of two 10-tossup halves, with three-part bonuses. There will be 15-point powers for early answers and 5-point deductions for incorrect answers before the end of a tossup. There will be no bouncebacks on bonuses. This tournament will not have computational math questions. Players will have 5 seconds to answer tossups after buzzing, and 5 seconds to answer bonus questions unless otherwise indicated.
FIELD:
The field will initially be capped at 12 teams. The field may expand depending on staff availability
