The South Bend Empowerment (SBEZ) is a family of five schools working to dramatically transform student achievement and growth. We believe in centering the needs of students and families in order for each school to be a place where students’ academic, social, and emotional needs are not only met, but prioritized. We focus on forming authentic relationships with students and families, making responsive and informed enhancements to schools, disrupting inequities in our education system, and pursuing excellence for our students. In just three years, we’ve increased student enrollment, social and emotional support, and teacher resources and compensation while improving academic outcomes, community and family relationships, and operations across all our schools. Each year we infuse our work with comprehensive strategies geared towards helping our students thrive while increasing access to high-quality education.
