2023 Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest Winners

In Academic Competitions, MLK Jr. Essay Contest, Student Programs

Student essays were submitted as a part of the 2023 Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest. Students were asked to write an essay on the following quote from Dr. King:

“We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.”

In addition, students were asked to consider the following questions when drafting their submissions:

  1. How do you feel about this quote?
  2. What does this quote mean to you?
  3. How can you use these words to honor Dr. King and the life he lived?
